American Pride

My two assignments for today just happened to fall under the same category, yet in significantly different ways.

Tim Twoguns and Gary Wheeler, Council members for the Cayuga Indian Nation, wait for a meeting to start in which they discussed a topic that continues to get thrown in the dirt by much of the community (who must obviously know what it REALLY means to be TRUE Americans). Cayugas have been fighting for years for land compensation, as well as a casino, which would be built in the Catskill Mountains, four hours away from here. Any plan to build locally barely got further than being scornfully laughed at.

On the other side of the city, the dream really IS fulfilled as Ieman Abuzeid, of Sudan, repeats an oath - in front of the Declaration of Independence no less - that swears her in as a U.S. citizen. She receives a reassuring smile here from her daughter, Leenda Osman, as two of her other children watch the ceremony.
